Over 2 lakh children to be fed Vitamin A+

Khulna Civil Surgeon Office has completed all preparations to immunise over 2.93 lakh children, aged between six months to 59 months, with Vitamin A plus capsules during the National Vitamin A-Plus Campaign on December 11.

Khulna Civil Surgeon Office disclosed the information Tuesday at an orientation meeting with local journalists held at the conference room of Khulna School Health Clinic to make the National Vitamin A Plus Campaign-2021 success.

The campaign will be conducted under the auspices of the Public Health and Nutrition Institute and National Nutrition Services under the Ministry of Health and Family Planning with the assistance of UNICEF.

Chaired by Civil Surgeon Dr. Newaz Mohammad, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Deputy Director of Family Planning Anwarul Azim, Assistant District Primary Education Officer Abdullah Al Mamun and District Health Superintendent Jyononath Chakroborty.

Child Specialist Dr. Sharafat Hossain delivered the key-note paper of the meeting.

Civil Surgeon said a large number of volunteers and monitoring teams will provide Vitamin A Plus Capsules at 1,690 outreach centres in all nine upazilas including two Metropolitan areas of the district from 8 am to 4 pm on the day.

“Around 31,643 babies (6-11 months) and 2, 39,698 babies (12-59 months) will be administered with one dose of one lakh unit Vitamin A Plus blue capsules and one dose of 1.93 lakh unit of Vitamin A red capsules each respectively,” he said.

“Special steps will be taken to feed Vitamin A capsules to under-five babies at bus stands, railway stations and other places to make the campaign a complete success in the district,” he added.
