Tragedy Day of suicide bomb blast observed

The Tragedy Day of massacre by suicide bombers on Netrakona Udichi office premises was observed Wednesday with paying tributes to the memories of the victims.

On the day of 2005, a suicide bomber of the banned militant organisation JMB carried out the suicide bomb attack on the office of Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigosthi killing eight and injuring 50 people.

To mark the day, Netrakona Tragedy Day observation committee took elaborate programmes.

State Minister for Social Welfare Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru, MP, formally inaugurated the day’s program with placing floral wreaths at the bomb blast victims memorial monument at the Udici office premises here.

Then, people of all walks of life including political leaders, public representatives, freedom fighters and cultural activists paid tributes at the monument built on the memories of the victims.

As part of the programme, a protest- rally against fundamentalism and militancy was brought out in the district town.

A large number of local people including students wearing black badges joined the rally that ended on the Netrakona central Shaheed minar premises after parading the main roads of the town.

Local elite, freedom fighters, political leaders and public representatives led the rally.

A five -minutes silence also was observed in the district town from 10.40am to 10.45am on Wednesday showing respect to the memories of the suicide bomb victims.
