Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa in Rangpur on Friday today said spontaneous payment of Value Added Tax (VAT) strengthens the national economy.
"The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has achieved laudable success in revenue earning by inspiring businesspersons and consumers in paying VAT spontaneously," he said.
Mostafa said this at a discussion organized by the Divisional Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate at 'Rupkotha Theme Park' auditorium in observance of the National VAT Day and VAT Week- 2021 as the chief guest.
Divisional Commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Shawkat Ali Sadi presided over the discussion.
Member (Tax Appeal Exemption) of NBR Md. Abdul Aziz, Deputy Inspector General of Rangpur Range Police Devdas Bhattacharya and President of Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mostafa Sohrab Chowdhury Titu spoke as special guests.
Additional Commissioner of Divisional Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Arun Kumar Biswas delivered a welcome speech while Additional Commissioner Jewel Ahmmed presented the keynote essay.
Jewel Ahmmed stressed on creating awareness among convince industrialists, businesspersons and consumers to enhance revenue earning in the form of VAT and taxes for further strengthening the national economy.
"The government has launched the new VAT law to make the process of paying VAT easy to enhance revenue earning for implementing developments at own resources without depending on foreign assistance," he added.
The chief guest said the government has conducted massive developments spending locally collected revenue in the last one decade improving living standards of the people.
"The Padma Bridge is being built on our own resources by overcoming dependence on foreign grants. The country is also implementing mega projects like Metrorail, Nuclear Power Plant, River Tunnel and so on," he said.
