All set to celebrate Victory Day in Rangpur

The district administration has completed all preparations to celebrate the Victory Day on December 16, Thursday next.

Celebration of the golden jubilee of victory-2021 bears special significance this time in the Mujib Year when the nation is advancing fast on its way to build a developed Bangladesh by 2041.

The district administration, Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC), Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP), freedom fighters, political parties and other organisations have taken elaborate programmes marking the day.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Golam Rabbani said the district administration has taken five-day Victory Day programmes from December 13 to December 17 next.

Celebrations of the five-day programmes began with the shooting competitions for males and females at Rangpur Rifles Club on Monday.

Documentary films on the Great War of Liberation will be screened at Rangpur Foundation auditorium on December 14.

On December 15, all government, semi-government and private buildings will be illuminated and the main islands of roads will be decorated with coloured flags, miniature posters and banners.

A Victory Day mini-marathon will parade from Begum Rokeya University to Zila School and various competitions for children on the War of Liberation will be arranged on December 15.

Besides, RpCC will arrange a four-day golden jubilee fair marking the Great Victory Day 2021 at Public Library ground in the metropolis from December 15 to December 18 next.

With the sunrise on December 16, the main golden jubilee celebrations of victory-2021 will begin with hoisting of the national flag and heralding 50- gun salutes at the Independence Memorial ‘Arjan’ in the city.

High officials and freedom fighters will first place wreaths at the Independence Memorial ‘Arjan’, Bangabandhu’s Mural and ‘Shahid Muktijoddha Smritistambha’ in the metropolis.

Later, leaders of different political parties, including Awami League (AL), and socio-cultural, professional, business and human rights organisations, educational institutions, NGOs and commoners will place wreaths.

Rangpur Kendra of Bangladesh Betar will air special programmes and local dailies will publish special supplements glorifying significance of the Victory Day 2021.

The Divisional Commissioner will take salute at march-pasts and displays by freedom fighters, police, Ansar-VDP, BNCC, fire service and civil defense personnel, students, children, jail guards, scouts, rover scouts and girl guides at Rangpur Stadium.

Freedom fighters and relatives of martyred freedom fighters will be accorded receptions at Town Hall auditorium at noon.

Special prayers will be offered seeking divine peace of the departed souls of martyrs during War of Liberation and wishing progress and welfare of the nation and its people at mosques, temples, churches, pagodas and other places of religious worship.
