Five killed in road crashes

At least five people have been killed in road accidents in Chattogram and Panchagarh districts.

According to sources, three bikers died in separate road accidents in Chattogram city on Wednesday evening.

The deceased were identified as Touhid Uddin, 28, and Salah Uddin, 25, both residents of Begumganj in Noakhali, and Sajedul Faisal, 24, of Rangunia upazila.

Adam Ali, sub-inspector with Dohajari highway police, said Towhid and Salah sustained serious injuries after their bike was hit by an unidentified vehicle on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar Highway in the Mithardighi area of Satkania upazila.

The two were rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where they succumbed to their injuries.

Meanwhile, in the evening, Sajedul and his friend Md Akib were injured when a three-wheeler hit their motorcycle in the Noapara area of Raozan.

They were taken to CMCH, where Sajedul was declared dead on arrival, said Md Alauddin Talukder, assistant sub-Inspector at CMCH police outpost.

A man and his son were killed in a road accident in Board Bazer area under Sadar upazila of Panchagarh district Thursday morning.

The deceased were identified as Samir Uddin, 65, and his son Rejaul Karim, 40, of Mitapukur village in the district.

Locals said the accident occurred when a speedy track, coming from Tetulia, collided head-on with Rejaul’s motorcycle in the area around 11.30 am as he along with his father (Samir Uddin) were going to Tetulia by the vehicle, leaving them critically injured.

Being informed, Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel rushed to the spot and recovered them with the help of locals.

Critically wounded Samir and Rejaul were brought to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital where on-duty doctor Umme Humayra declared them dead.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Tetulia Highway Police Md Asraful Alam confirmed the incident. Police seized the truck but its driver managed to flee the scene, the SI added.
