Israfil placed on three days remand

A court in Cox’s Bazar has put Israfil Huda Joy on a three-day remand in a case filed over the tourist woman gang-rape.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Hakim Mohammed Abul Mansur Siddiqui passed the order.

Md. Mohiuddin Ahmed, Additional Superintendent of Cox’s Bazar Tourist Police Zone, confirmed the matter on Wednesday.

Mohiuddin said that the police produced the accused before the court seeking seven-day remand. After the hearing, he was granted three-day remand for interrogation.

He also added that the police arrested six people including the key accused Ashiqul Islam Ashiq so far in the rape case.

Meanwhile, four accused excluding Israfil are already on remand. Of them, Riyaz Uddin Choton, the manager of the ‘Zia Guest Inn’ hotel is on four-day remand while the others were put on two-day remand each.

Those who are on the two-day remand are Rezaul Karim Shahabuddin from South Baharchhara, Mamunur Rashid from Dulahajara Ulubunia under Chakaria upazila and Mehedi Hasan from West Baharchhara area of Cox’s Bazar.

On December 22, Ashiq and his accomplices gang-raped the tourist woman while she was spending vacation with her family in Cox’s Bazar. On information, RAB-15 rescued her from the hotel on December 23. Later, RAB arrested Ashik from Madaripur on December 26.
