Five killed, 28 injured in road accidents

At least five people have been killed and 29 others injured in separate road accidents in Sirajganj and Madaripur.

In Sirajganj, four people were killed and 25 others injured as a bus overturned on a three-wheeler at Salanga on the Hatikumrul-Bonpara Highway of the district.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Hatikumrul Highway Police Lutfar Rahman said the bus on its way to Dhaka from Rajshahi lost control near Goja Bridge on the highway around 10 am and hit the battery-run van.

He said four van passengers, including a woman, were killed on the spot and 19 others injured, three critically.

The deceased could not be identified yet, the OC said. He added that the injured people were rescued and taken to the Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib General Hospital for treatment.

“We will take punitive measures to people who are behind this fatal accident,” he further said.

In Madaripur, a person was killed and three others injured in a fatal

road accident when a Chattogram-bound bus collided head-on with a three-wheeler on the Madaripur-Shariatpur Regional Highway.

“A bus from Didar Paribahan from Barisal was heading to Madaripur when it lost control and collided with the three-wheeler killing one of its passengers on the spot,” said Kamrul Islam Miah, officer-in-charge of Madaripur Sadar police station.
