Over 13,000 tonnes onion production expected in Jashore

About 21,831 tonnes of onion is expected to be produced from around 1,910 hectares of land in all eight upazilas of Jashore district during the current season.

A total of 19,528 tonnes of onion was produced in the district from 1,710 hectares of land in the last season.

Farmers cultivated onion on 150 hectares of land in Sadar upazila, 330 hectares in Monirampur upazila, 210 hectares in Sharsha upazila, 540 hectares in Jhikargacha upazila, 460 hectares in Chaugachha upazila, 120 hectares in Keshabpur upazila, 70 hectares in Bagherpara upazila and 30 hectares of land in Abhaynagar upazila of the district.

Deputy Director of Department of agriculture Extension (DAE) Badal Chandra Biswas said the DAE has already intensified steps for enhancing onion production through encouraging the farmers in the district.
