Authorities of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) have decided to exempt the provost of the Begum Sirajunnesa Chowdhury Hall Zafrin Ahmed Liza from duty.

The decision was taken on Friday after a protest erupted amid the residential students of the university asking for her resignation.

“Prof Zobaida Kanak Khan has been made the acting provost of the hall for now. We will surely investigate the allegations,” SUST Vice-Chancellor Farid Uddin told The Business Post, confirming the incident.

“Zafrin Ahmed Liza is currently on leave,” he added.

Earlier, residential students of the university staged a protest on Thursday night, demanding the resignation of the provost.

Around 8:00pm, the students of the female dormitory called on provost Zafrin Ahmed Liza to inform her of their problems about accommodation. But the students alleged that the hall provost misbehaved with them.

The agitated students immediately staged a protest at the hall and then outside the official residence of SUST vice-chancellor, demanding provost Zafrin’s resignation and public apology, as well as resolution of their long-standing issues.
