A small business man on Thursday was sent to jail after repaying a loan from Agrani Bank in Betagi, Barguna.

According to sources, police arrested him from Nurul Haque in Shaheed Minar areas of Betagi municipal town Wednesday night in a certificate case filed under the Money Debt Court Act.

Nurul Haque was made to go to jail as bail prayer was not sought in the court as the court was closed. He is expected to be released from jail next Sunday as Friday and Saturday are holydays, said his lawyer.

Nurul Haque’s family members claim that Nurul Haque had to go to jail due to negligence of the concerned officials including the manager of the bank.

It is learnt that in 2013, he took Tk 1 lakh as loan. After paying a monthly installment, in February 2021, he repaid the loan by adjusting TK 55,500. At that time, through the arbitration of the local people’s representatives, an additional Tk 4,000 was immediately paid to the branch manager for the cost of raising the case.
