At least nine people have been killed in separate road accidents in Dinajpur, Narisingdi and Dhaka.
The accidents took place between Thursday and Friday
In Dinajpur, a truck driver and his assistant were killed in a head-on collision with a lorry on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj Regional Highway in the early hours of Friday, police confirmed.
The deceased driver was identified as KM Saiful Islam Badsha, 49, from Singra upazila in Natore, while his assistant could not be identified immediately, said Ashraful Islam, in charge of Fulbari police station.
The accident occurred around 3 am near the Rajarampur Fakirpara area of the district’s Fulbari upazila when the Panchagarh-bound truck carrying bricks crashed into the Naogaon-bound potato-laden lorry.
In Narsingdi, a head-on collision between a pickup van and an autorickshaw left at least four people, including the three-wheeler driver, dead in the Raipura upazila.
Two others were injured in the accident that took place in the upazila’s Ameerganj area around 7 am on Friday, according to Raipura police station OC Azizur Rahman. He confirmed that the bodies had been sent to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Meanwhile, two people have been killed in a road crash involving two trucks and a pick up in the Beribadh area of Dhaka’s Rupnagar. The dead have been identified as Badol, 22, and Md Rafiq, 23.
The accident occurred when one of the vehicles tried to overtake another, only to collide head-on into the third, said Arif Hossain Sardar, OC of Rupnagar police station. Several people were injured in the accident, he said.
In Dhaka’s Gulistan, a cleaner working for the Dhaka South City Corporation has died after being run over by a bus. The victim was identified as 55-year-old Md Faruk.
Faruk was critically injured after being struck by a Swadesh bus outside the south gate to the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque at 6 am on Friday, police said.
