Forensic lab infuses dynamism into identifying criminals

A newly established forensic laboratory has infused dynamism into the activities of identifying criminals, detecting crimes, and examining evidence.

After Dhaka and Chattogram, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh Police established the divisional laboratory in a four-storey building at Police Line Compound in the city on February 3, 2020.

“We are being benefitted enormously with the establishment of the laboratory in Rajshahi as we are getting reports of different tests related to crimes quickly,” said Mazharul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Boalia Model Police Station.

As they are getting a test report within the shortest possible time they are enabled to submit charge sheets to the court quickly resulting in a quick start of trials in court, he added. OC Islam said they are getting viscera reports quickly and they are getting identities of unidentified bodies from the fingerprint report.

“Previously, it took a long time to get laboratory reports, and this delayed investigations, and sometimes evidence would be damaged,” said the police officer, adding that the lab has expedited investigations in these regions.
