Man jailed for murdering brother

Natore court sentenced a man to 7 years in prison on Thursday for killing his younger brother during a quarrel between the two.

Judge Sharif Uddin of the Natore Sessions Judge’s Court handed down the verdict on Thursday afternoon.

The convicted Jahangir Sheikh, 40, is the eldest son of Sabed Ali Sheikh of Kanaikhali area of the city.

According to Court Inspector Nazmul Haque, Jonnhy Sheikh died due to a head injury incurred during a quarrel between the two brothers.

The argument started between their wives when the younger complained about the others’ pet dogs destroying her household things. On January 8 2017 the heated argument got out of hand as the brothers joined in, and at one point Jahangir pushed Johnny’s face into a wall.

The wife of the deceased, Polly Begum filed a case against Jahangir and his wife Bilkis for the murder.

After a long hearing, Jahangir Sheikh was sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment and another 6 months imprisonment for non-payment of a fine of Tk 10,000.
