At least six people were found dead in Sylhet, Chuadanga, Keraniganj and Natore on Wednesday.

A 21-year-old student of MC College was found hanging inside a room in her hostel in the Tilagarh area of Sylhet city.

The deceased was identified as Smriti Rani Das, a first-year student in the English department of MC College. She was originally from the Kishoreganj district.

Prof Saleh Ahmed of MC College said that fellow residential students found Smriti hanging from the ceiling of a room on the third floor of the hostel in the morning.

Indranil Bhattacharya, an inspector at the Shahporan police station, said the body was sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

“Primarily, it seemed she died by suicide. But a probe is on to ascertain the exact cause of her death,” he said.

A 24-year-old third-year honours student allegedly ended his life during a video call with his girlfriend in Boalmari village of Chuadanga in the early hours of Wednesday.

The deceased, Fazle Rabbi, son of Tulu Miah of the village, was a student of Chuadanga Government College. Besides, he worked at a private healthcare centre.

Family members of the victim said an unidentified woman called them around 2 am and told them that Rabbi had hanged himself in his bedroom.

His family members immediately broke open the door of Rabbi’s bedroom and rushed him to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. “We came to know that Rabbi committed suicide after an altercation with his girlfriend,” a family member said.

Chuadanga Sadar police inspector Abu Sayed said that “legal action will be taken in this case”.

Police in Keraniganj on Wednesday recovered the bodies of two youths from a plastic factory after getting a call from the national hotline number 999. The deceased were identified as Meraz 19, and his friend Rubel, 18.

Kamrangirchar police station sub-inspector Aniruddha said on information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies.

However, police could not confirm the reason behind their death, he said.

Deceased Meraz used to work at the plastic factory.

Police are investigating the incident and details will be informed later, added the police official.

The bodies of two people including a newly married woman were recovered in Natore. One of the deceased was identified as Alo Khatun, daughter of Ayub Ali of Bamihal Dashopara village in Singra upazila.

On Tuesday night, family members saw Alo Khatun hanging in her bedroom. Upon receiving the news, the police recovered her body on Wednesday morning and sent it to the morgue of Sadar Hospital.

The other deceased was identified as van driver Abdur Rahim, 36, son of Sona Miah of Natunpara village in Nazirpur union.

The officer-in-charge(OC) of Gurudaspur police station, Md Abdul Matin said Rahim’s relatives started looking for him when he did not return home at night on Tuesday.

The locals contacted the police after spotting the body in a maize field in the Nazirpur area. Upon receiving the news, the police recovered the body.
