Woman held for university student’s death

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained a woman in connection with the alleged suicide of a 24-year-old student of a private university.

The detainee has been identified as Suraiya Islam Mim, 24, daughter of Abul Kalam Azad of Kalipur upazila in Narail district, the elite force said on Saturday.

Tipped off, a Rab-6 team conducted a drive in the Masumdia area of Narail district on Friday and detained Mim for provoking Promise Nager, a journalism student of Northern University, to end his life, said Harsit Mandal, a sub-inspector at Sadar Police Station.

Mim went into hiding after hearing the news of Promise’s suicide and subsequently took shelter in a relative’s house. Promise allegedly committed suicide in his rented accommodation in the Sonadanga area of Khulna city on Wednesday.
