Import-export through the Hili land port of Dinajpur will be closed for 8 consecutive days on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. However, travellers crossing between the two countries can go through as usual.
Mostafizur Rahman, general secretary of the import-export group of Hili land port, confirmed this on Wednesday morning.
Secretary Rahman said that due to Eid-ul-Azha, import-export activities through the Hili land port will be closed for 8 days from July 8 to 15. Goods transportation will resume on July 16.
The officer-in-charge (OC) of Hili Immigration Check Post Mohammad Badiuzzaman said that even if the transportation of goods through the port is stopped, travellers can cross as usual.
On the other hand, imports of Indian onions have resumed via the Hili land port since Tuesday after two months.
While the prices of onions have gone down by Tk 20-25 per kg since imports began, the prices of green chilli have gone up by Tk 40 in the markets of Hili.
The low-income people of the area are worried about the sudden price rise as green chilli was being sold at Tk 80 on Wednesday but shot up to Tk 120 per kg on Thursday.
Traders blame the price rise on the low supply of green chilli in the markets before Eid and said that the price will go down if supply increases again.
