At least nine people were killed in separate road accidents in Madaripur, Dinajpur, Manikganj and Chattogram districts on Tuesday and Wednesday.
In Madaripur, two people were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a pickup van on the Dhaka-Barisal highway in the Alamdasta area of Rajoir upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Saddam Miah, 22, son of Rouge Miah, resident of Gangaria village in Porsha upazila of Naogaon district and Khairul Alam, 45, son of Sirauddin, resident of the same village.
Highway police and eyewitnesses said the accident occurred when a Barishal-bound mango-laden pickup van from Naogaon and another passenger bus of ‘Sonar Bangla’ transport coming from the opposite direction collided head-on around 6.45am in the area.
In Chattogram, a housewife riding pillion on her husband’s bike and a differently-abled woman pedestrian died after the biker ploughed into two passersby on Wednesday. The identities of the deceased couldn’t be known yet.
The accident occurred in Sitakunda when the biker crashed into two pedestrians while trying to save his wife from falling off after he lost control of the speeding two-wheeler, police said.
In Dinajpur, three friends were killed and two others injured when their car skidded off the road and fell into a ditch on the busy Panchagarh-Rangpur highway on Tuesday night.
The deceased were identified as Borno Basak, 22, son of Kapil Basak and student of a private university in Dhaka, Shahriar Shaon, 24, son of Shafiqul Islam of Syedpur, and Imon, 23, son of Nurul Amin of Munshipara.
In Manikganj two youths were killed and another was injured in a road accident at Kaliganga Bridge of the district on Tuesday night.
The deceased were identified as Juel Mia, an honours third-year student of Debendra University College and his friend motorcycle businessman Ashiqur Rahman, residents of Rathura village under Ghior upazila of the district.
