A total of 2,200 small and marginal farmers have received seed and fertiliser as incentives for boosting the production of Aman paddy in the district during the current season.
Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) office sources said the government has distributed 5 kgs of Aman seeds for cultivating one bigha of land and necessary fertilisers including 20 kgs of Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and 10 kgs of Muriate of Potash (MoP) among the cultivators free of cost.
The DAE office sources said Aman paddy generally grows in alluvial soil. So the seeds have been distributed among the selected cultivators of seven upazilas of the district Manikganj Sadar, Saturia, Singair, Ghior, Daulatpur, Shibalaya and Harirampur. The farmers of the district cultivated the Aman on their land after harvesting the Boro paddy.
Abdul Ahad, 45, of village Pecharkanda under Baliakhora Union of Ghior Upazila of the district, one of the Aman cultivators, who received seed and fertilisers free of cost through the Department of Agriculture Extension.
DAE office sources said the allocated seeds and fertilisers have already been distributed among the listed cultivators and the farmers have started to cultivate the Aman in their lands.
