Over 2000 families to get Asrayan houses

About 2221 landless and homeless families of different uazilas of Rangpur and Gaibandha will get new houses under the third phase of the Asrayan-2 project.

As many as 624 landless and homeless families will get new houses as gifts from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the Mujib Year under the third phase of the Asrayan-2 project in Rangpur on Thursday next.

“The Prime Minister will launch distribution of the houses with land ownership documents and keys to the beneficiary families through a videoconferencing from Ganabhaban on Thursday next,” said Deputy Commissioner Md Asib Ahsan.

He disclosed the information while addressing a press conference held in his conference room in the Collectorate Building on Tuesday.

Out of 1,397 houses allocated under the third phase of the Asrayan-2 project, the Prime Minister earlier distributed 675 houses to beneficiary landless and homeless families in the first instalment on April 26 last in the district.

“After construction 624 houses out of 1,397 houses in the third phase, those will be distributed among the landless and homeless families on July 21 next in the first instalment,” he said.

Besides, 98 more houses allocated under the third phase will be distributed later in the Taraganj upazila of the district.

The climate-resilient colourful houses have been constructed under a strict monitoring system ensuring the quality of work at the cost of Tk 2,59,500 for each on two decimals of land on the mainland and at Tk 2,33,500 for each in char areas.

“Each house has two bedrooms, veranda, one kitchen and one sanitary latrine, electricity and pure drinking water facilities,” he added.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) AWM Raihan Shah and other officials concerned attended the event.

In Gaibandha a total of 1597 landless and homeless people from seven upazilas of the district will get semi-pucca houses on Thursday next as Prime Minister’s gift.

This was disclosed by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Gaibandha Md Oliur Rahman at a press conference in his conference room on Tuesday noon as the main focal person of the district administration.

In the press conference, DC Oliur Rahman said as many as 26,229 houses would be handed over to landless and homeless families across the country on July 21.

Of them, a total of 1597 houses would be distributed to landless and homeless people of the district (second step of the third phase of the Asrayan project), he also said.

Of the total, 234 families would get houses under Gaibandha Sadar upazila, 135 in Gobindaganj upazila, 510 in Sundarganj upazila, 70 in Saghata upazila, 318 in Fulchhari upazila, 140 in Palashbari upazila and 70 in Sadullapur upazila, he added.

A total of 19,780 landless families have been rehabilitated so far in 52 upazilas, the DC said adding that the number of landless and homeless families will be zero in the entire Panchagarh and Magura districts. It is a huge achievement of the government, the DC added.
