Gaibandha District Administration organised a preparatory meeting on arranging various programmes to observe the National Mourning Day on August 15, the 47th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, with due respect and honour.

The meeting was held at the conference room of the district collectorate building in the town on Thursday with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Oliur Rahman in the chair.

The programmes include hoisting the national flag at half-mast at all government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings, placing floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, bringing out a mourning procession, arrangement of the art competition for the children and prize distribution to the winners at Zilla Shishu Academy (ZSA).

The programmes also include rendering songs, reciting poems, holding doa and milad mahfil, arrangement of special prayers and munajat at all mosques, temples and churches and other religious organizations, holding blood donation programme and health camps by Health Department and screening film and documentary on the life and deeds of Bangabandhu at important places by the District Information Office.

Improved diets will be served to the inmates of district jail, orphanages and shishu saribas marking the day.

All programmes would be held maintaining health guidelines to limit the spread of coronavirus.

General secretary of district Awami League Abu Bakar Siddique, panel mayor of Gaibandha municipality Abdus Shahid, renowned freedom fighters Mahmudul Haque Shajada and Ali Akbar Miah, additional superintendent of police Abu Khayer, ADC Sushanto Kumar Mahato, district education officer Enayet Hossain, and district information officer Md. Kabir Uddin addressed the meeting, among others.

A number of district and upazila level officials, political leaders of district AL and its front organizations, public representatives, social workers and members of civil society including journalists of print and electronic media participated in the meeting.
