A weeklong tree fair began on the premises of Bangabandhu Square in Brahmanbaria district town on Saturday. The fair will continue until August 1.
Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry R A M Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury, MP, inaugurated the fair, organised by the District Administration and Forest Department of the district, as the chief guest.
In this regard, a discussion was also held on the Bangabandhu Square premises this afternoon with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Shahgir Alam in the chair. Superintendent of Police Mohammad Anisur Rahman, District Awami League General Secretary Bir Muktijoddha Al-Mamun Sarkar, and Assistant Director of Forest Department Fahim Masood were, among others, present on the occasion.
The speakers underscored the need for planting more trees at the homesteads and open spaces to protect the environment from its degradation and to save the country from the catastrophe of climate-change side by side mitigating the nutritional and wood demand.
