KU VC for more research to increase local fish production

Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University (KU) Professor Dr Mahmud Hasan on Tuesday said that there is no alternative to more research to increase local fish production.

“It is only not necessary to increase fish production. Fish farmers should also be careful of its nutrition side by side with safe fish production,” he said this as chief guest while releasing fish fries at the pond, adjacent to Katka Tragedy Memorial on the campus.

Fisheries and Marine Resource Technology Discipline of the university organized a discussion on Fish and Fish fries releasing programme marking the countrywide National Fisheries Week-2022 at the KU campus with a theme ‘Nirapod Mache Vorbo Desh, Bangabandhur Bangladesh.

Chaired by Professor Dr Mohammad Golam Sarwar, Head of the Discipline, Dean of Live Science School Professor Khan Golam Quddus and District Fisheries Officer Joydeb Pal addressed the function as special guests.

He stressed the need for verifying chemical which is used to increase fish production is safe and fulfilling nutrition or not. Local verities of fish are now in the closure of distinction, said the VC adding that initiative will be taken to preserve it with control of quality. He also urged the KU teachers for more research to save local fish varieties which are near to distinction.

Later, the VC led a rally that was brought out from Acharya Jagadish Chandra Auditorium and released fish fries at the KU pond after parading different streets flanked by teachers, officers and officials of the Department of Fisheries.
