Five persons were killed and three others injured as a bus crashed into a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur Saturday night, police said.
The deceased were identified as auto-rickshaw driver Nazrul Islam, 27, and its four passengers Mehedi Hasan, 44, Atiqul Islam, 42, Rubel, 27, and Shahin Uddin, 28.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kaliakair police station Abdul Bashar said the accident took place around 10:45pm as an auto rickshaw collided head-on with a Chandra-bound passenger bus of ‘Itihas Paribahan’. Two people including the auto-rickshaw driver died on the spot.
The injured were rushed to Kaliakair Health Complex in critical condition where one of them succumbed to their injuries, said the OC.
Critically injured another was taken to Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial KPJ Specialized Hospital & Nursing College where he died while undergoing treatment.
