Thousands of people have been suffering in different parts of Brahmanbaria district due to disruption in gas supply to their homes. All this while, people across the city struggled to cook food and many had to eat shop bought food.
Gas supply has been suspended in Sadar and Sarail upazilas of Brahmanbaria for three days till 6:00 am on Wednesday. In this moment of crisis, people have already started to depend on alternative methods to meet their daily demands.
To arrange alternative cooking, residents of the district also started buying kerosene stoves, electric and clay ovens, and rice cookers from the market.
The extra cost has become an added burden to the people of middle and lower income.
Khalilur Rahman, a resident of Munsef Para in the city, said, "It will be very difficult to arrange food for these three days. Maybe we will have to rely on shop-bought food."
Arunabh Biswas, resident of Medda area, and Baharul Islam, resident of Moulvipara area of the district, said that they bought kerosene stoves from the local market to prepare their daily meal.
Monirul Islam, manager at Brahmanbaria regional office of Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Limited, said, "The work of transferring the gas pipeline will continue for three days. On the first day (Sunday), there will be no gas in the district from morning to evening."
"There will be an attempt to provide gas connection in municipalities after afternoon or evening on the first day,” he also said.
However, Monirul also added, “Pipeline relocation work will mainly be done on the western side of the city. So there will be no gas there for three days”.
According to the Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Limited the disruption is happening due to pipeline relocation work under the four-lane highway upgradation project from Ashuganj river port to Akhaura land port.
