Fish worth Tk 8.16 crore was sold in the first 11 days in Barguna’s Patharghata fish offloading centre after the 65-day fishing ban in the sea ended.
Which is about seven times more than last year and added to the revenue collection. Fishermen are happy to get a better price of fish as transportation has become easier due to the Padma Bridge.
In the first 11 days after the 65-day ban, the fish offloading centre sold 160 tonnes of fish including 97 tonnes of hilsa which is about three times more than last year. The market value of the fish amounted to about Tk 8,16,60,000.
According to Patharghata Fish offloading Centre sources, 53 tonnes of fish, including 30 tonnes of hilsa were sold in the first 11 days after the ban last year for Tk 1.9 crore.
Meanwhile, due to the Padma bridge, fish can easily be transported to Dhaka and other districts in a short period. Both fishermen and traders are making a good profit due to this.

The government collects revenue of 1.25 per cent of the total price of fish sold at this offloading centre, he said.
