Green chilli import starts through Hili land port

Green chilli import starts through the Hili land port, Dinajpur, on Saturday afternoon after eight months.

On the first day of import, two companies named Hili Shipping Traders and Sotota Banijyaloy imported 50 tonnes of green chilli through the port.

According to Hili land port sources, the import of green chilli from India was stopped on November 10. Due to the price increase of green chilli in the domestic market, the government decided to start importing again. Last Thursday, the Ministry of Commerce gave import permits (IP) for 2,000 tonnes of green chilli to two importers of the Hili land port.

Haroon ur Rashid, President of Hili Land Port Import-Export Group, said green chilli import began again on Saturday with IP from the Ministry of Commerce.

Yusuf Ali, the deputy assistant officer of the plant contamination control centre of Hili land port, said that the Ministry of Commerce gave IP to two importing companies of Hili land port to import 2,000 tonnes of green chillies in response to the request of traders to keep the domestic supply and demand stable.
