A housewife was gang-raped in a moving bus of Taqwa Paribahan after her husband was beaten and dumped on the road in Gazipur.
Police have arrested five people involved in this connection.
The incident took place early Saturday (August 6), confirmed Sanowar Hossain, additional superintendent (crime) of Gazipur police.
The arrestees are Rakib Mollah, 23, Sumon Khan, 20, Sajib, 23, Sumon Hasan, 22, and Shahin Mia, 19.
A case was filed with Sreepur Police Station last night over the rape incident and robbery in Gazipur.
According to the case statement, the staffers of a bus of Bhaluka-bound Taqwa Paribahan were involved in the incident.
They first beat up the man, threw him out of the bus and then gang- raped his wife by turns.
They also snatched away the valuables including a bag, mobile phone, TK10,000 in cash from the victims, the case statement read.
Police said the victim was heading to Bhaluka with her husband from Naogaon.
The duo got on the bus at Gazipur’s Bhogra bypass around 3:10am on Saturday. When the bus reached Chandina intersection, its staffers asked all passengers, except the duo, to get off.
Later, they started beating up the man and dumped him on the road from the bus before the bus reached Maona intersection. The bus then made a U-turn at Maona flyover and headed towards Gazipur again.
After the rape and robbery, they left the woman at Rajendrapur and went away, said police.
Being informed, police rushed to the spot and took the victim to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for medical check-up.
