Bangamata’s birth anniversary observed

Local units of Bangladesh Awami League and different other government and non-government organisations, including educational institutions, today observed the 92nd birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, wife of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, here in a befitting manner.

To mark the day, leaders and workers of the city unit of the ruling party held a discussion meeting at its office highlighting the life and works of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib paying glowing tributes to her.

They also placed floral wreaths on the portrait of Bangamata Fazilatunnesa Mujib in front of the party office.

City unit president Muhammad Ali Kamal, General Secretary Dablu Sarker, senior vice-president Shahin Akter Rainy, vice presidents Meer Iqbal, Prof Shafiqur Rahman Badsha and Advocate Aslam Sarker were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Muhammad Ali Kamal said Fazilatunnesa Mujib was not only the wife of Father of the Nation but also one of the pioneers of the Bangalee's struggle for freedom.

He said Bangamata had also played a significant role from behind the scene in Bangabandhu's historic 7th March speech.

With her inspiration, the unwritten speech Bangabandhu had delivered emitting from his heart was the call for independence, he added. District administration also held a discussion meeting titled "Mohioshi Bangamatar Chetona, Anonya Bangladesh's Prerona" at Shilpakala Academy auditorium with Deputy Commissioner Abdul Jalil in the chair.

Commissioner of Rajshahi division GSM Zafarullah addressed the meeting as chief guest, while Deputy Inspector General of Police Abdul Baten and Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Abu Kalam Siddique spoke as special guests.

Superintendent of Police Masud Hossain, local unit Chairman of Jatiya Mohila Sangstha Morjina Parveen and Deputy Director of Department of Women Affairs Shobnom Shirin also spoke.

Rajshahi University also observed the 92nd birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib paying rich tribute to her.

Vice-chancellor Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar accompanied by Pro-vice-chancellor Prof Sultan-Ul-Islam, Treasurer Prof Obayedur Rahman Pramanik and Registrar Prof Abdus Salam placed floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangamata Fazilatunnesa Mujib at Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Hall.
