National Mourning Day observed across country
Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan, along with the officials of Panchagarh district administration, pays rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing a wreath at his mausoleum in the town– Nazrul Islam

The National Mourning Day and the 47th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed across the country on Monday with due respect and solemnity.

In Rajshahi

The day was observed in Rajshahi with a fresh vow to materialise the dreams of Bangabandhu to build a ‘Sonar Bangla’ and to bring back the fugitive convicted killers of Bangabandhu to execute verdict of the murder case.

City unit of Bangladesh Awami League and its front organisations garlanded the portrait of Bangabandhu paying rich tribute to him at the Bangabandhu mural at C&B Crossing and the city unit office.

Unit president Muhammad Ali Kamal, Senior vice-president Shahin Akter Rainy, Vice-president Meer Iqbal, Naosher Ali, Shafiqur Rahman and Sheikh Tabibur Rahman and General Secretary Dablu Sarker, among others, were present on the occasion.

Afterwards, they took out a large mourning procession and paraded the main city streets.

General Secretary of Workers Party of Bangladesh Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing a wreath at the Bangabandhu mural in the city.

At 8:30 am, district judgeship, bar association and public prosecutors jointly took out a mourning procession and paraded the district judge court premises followed by a brief discussion.

At 9:30 am, the district administration brought out a mourning procession from the premises of Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman Central Zoo and Park. The rally ended at Shilpakala Academy Auditoriun where a discussion and Doa Mahfil was held.

Divisional Commissioner GSM Zafarullah, Deputy Inspector General of Police Abdul Baten, Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Abu Kalam Siddique and Superintendent of Police Masud Hossain addressed the meeting with Deputy Commissioner Abdul Jalil in the chair.

In Khulna

Khulna City and District units of Bangladesh Awami League and its front-organisations and different other political parties also observed various programmes marking the day.

The day begn through hoisting of national flag at half mast in all government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings.

Government and semi-government organisations placed wreaths at the monument of Bangabandhu on Khulna deputy commissioner office premises around 8.30am. Mourning rally has brought out in the city followed by discussion meeting, doa mahfil at party office.

Freedom Fighters, government high officials and leaders of civil society, among others, also placed wreaths at the potrait of Bangabandhu.

Distribution of food among the destitute and screening of film on life and works of Bangabandhu and special milad mahfils and prayers at all religious institutions were also held.

Khulna District Administration organised a discussion meeting while Directorate of Youth Development distributed prize among the winners of essay, Art, Hamd and Poem recetation competition and cheque distributed among freedom fighters at DC’s conference room.

State Minister of Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian addressed as chief guest while Khulna City Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleqe and Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Zillur Rahman addressed as special guests. Deputy commissioner Md Moniruzzaman Talukder was in the chair.

In Mymensingh

An elaborate programme was held on the National Mourning Day. The programme includes hoisting of national flag half-mast, raising black flags, wearing black badges, placing wreaths, discussion, painting, essay writings, rendering hamd-nath, recitation from holy Quran and poems, Quran Khani, Milad, special Doa mahfil and screening films.

To observe the day, floral wreaths were placed on the mural of Bangabandhu near Circuit House from 9 am .

State Minister for Housing and Public Works Sharif Ahamed ,MP, and Monira Sultana Moni, MP, first placed wreaths at the Mural of Bangabandhu near Circuit house at the beginning of placing wreath.

In Sirajganj

National Mourning Day was observed with due dignity at Rabindra University in Shajadpur upazila of Sirajganj district. The university vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Shah Azam laid a wreath on the portrait of Bangabandhu in the administrative building of the university campus in the morning.

Later, a discussion was organized in an academic building of the university. Pabna-1 MP Adv. Shamsul Haque Tuku was present as the chief guest at the discussion with the university vice-chancellor Professor Dr. Md Shah Azam in the chair.

In Satkhira

The National Mourning Day and 47th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is being observed in the district with due dignity.

Marking the day, an elaborate programme is being held on the National Mourning Day. The programme includes hoisting of national flag half-mast, raising black flags, wearing black badges, placing wreaths, discussion, recitation from holy Quran, Qurankhwani and special Doa mahfil.

On the occasion of the day, Satkhira district Awami League, district administration and district police, various political parties, socio-cultural organizations and people from all walks of life placed floral wreaths at Bangabandhu’s mural in the city this morning.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Humayun Kabir, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman and other high-ranking officials and employees of the administration were also present.

In Chattogram

People of Chattogram city and its adjacent areas today observed the 47th National Mourning Day and martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with due respect and solemnity.

Apart from Chattogram city, north and south district units of Awami League (AL) and its front organisations, different socio-cultural organisations, district administration, educational institutions chalked out various programmes to observe the day, including placing floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, holding virtual discussion meeting, food distribution, screening documentary and holding special prayers in mosque and others religious institutions.

The day’s programmes included hoisting of the national and black flags half-mast atop all party offices, placing of wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, Qurankhwani, milad mahfil, discussions, poetry recitation, essay and quiz competitions on the life and works of Bangabandhu, exhibition of films, playing of the historic March 7 speeches of Bangabandhu in 41 wards of the city corporation, tree plantation and blood donation.

Black flags dominated the skyline of the port city and the national flag was hoisted half-mast at the government and private buildings.
