Experts stress on preserving, enriching traditional folk songs

Sociocultural experts at a discussion in Rangpur have asked for appropriately cultivating and maintaining traditional folk songs to further enhance our cultural heritage during a meeting in Rangpur.

They especially urged cultural activists to take the responsibility of safeguarding the rich Bengali culture that reflects real feelings of people and helps to build a peaceful, prosperous, secular and progressive nation.

The observation came at the discussion arranged in the Folksong Festival organised by ‘Gidaler Akhra’, a folk culture organisation, at District Shilpokola Academy auditorium in the city on Tuesday night.

Convener of the Folksong Festival Organising Committee of ‘Gidaler Akhra’ Khondker Fakhrul Anam Benzu presided over the discussion session of the festival while Deputy Commissioner of Police of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Abu Bakar Siddique attended it as the chief guest.

Noted cultural personality and heroic freedom fighter Akbor Hossain and sociocultural activist Alauddin Miah addressed the discussion as special guests.

The speakers called upon different persons, private organisations and institutions to come forward alongside the government’s efforts to properly preserve and enhanced nurturing of the country’s folk songs.

Later, a cultural function was arranged at the same venue. Popular folk song artists, including ‘Bhaoyaiya’ and ‘Polli Geeti’ singers, rendered the most popular folk songs.
