Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) seized huge chemical-mixed shrimp in the Laujani Bazar area under Jashore Kotwali Model Police Station on the Benapole-Jashore highway last night.
The RAB members also fined Tk one lakh to three fish traders on charges of mixing chemicals in shrimps, said a RAB-6 press release on Thursday.
On secret information, a special team of the RAB-6 led by the Company Commander of Jashore Camp flanked by Senior Fisheries Officer and Quality Controller of Jashore Sadar Upazila set up a temporary check post in the area around 8.30pm.
The RAB members were compelled to halt a shrimp-laden truck around 11.30pm, coming from Shymnagar upazila of Satkhira district, and seized around 500 kilograms of chemical-mixed shrimp wrapped with 33 cork sheets.
A mobile court led by the Executive Magistrate of the RAB fined Tk 10,000 from Palash, owner of Mony Fish of Debhata upazila, Tk 60,000 from Rokon, owner of Bandhu Fish of Shyamnagar upazila and Tk 30,000 from Hasan of Salam Fish under Debhata upazila of Satkhira district on Fish Act.
Later, the chemical-mixed shrimp has been destroyed in presence of the District Fisheries Officer and the fined money of Tk one lakh was deposited to the government treasury, the release added.
