Leaders of Bangladesh Narimukti Kendra (BNK) have stressed launching an inclusive social movement to end repression and violence against women and children to ensure their equal rights in society.
They viewed this at a human chain programme organised by the Rangpur district unit of BNK at Press Club premises Wednesday afternoon in observance of the Women Repression Prevention Day- 2022 in the city.
Presided over by Member of BNK’s district unit Alo Begum, Members of its central committee Advocate Kamrunnahar Khanom Shikha and Suborna Barman Bonnya addressed the occasion.
Member-secretary of Rangpur district unit of Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (Marxist) Ahsanul Arefin Titu, Convener of the district unit of Samajtantrik Chhatra Front Shaju Basfor and other leaders of BNK also spoke.
The speakers protested incidents of repression and violence against women and children and stressed involving politicians, civil society members, public representatives, community leaders and sociocultural activists to end all sorts of oppressions.
They said women are being subjected to violence, torture and abuse in most families, working places, roads, transports and everywhere due to lack of adequate social awareness and cooperative attitudes.
Terming these social curses as the main barriers to flourishing women’s leadership and empowerment, they suggested incorporating the concept of gender equality in the curricula to help students develop hatred against these tribulations.
They especially stressed engaging in comprehensive efforts to launch a social movement for ending all sorts of repressions, social erosion and drugs to save young generations from moral degradation for build a healthier and peaceful society.
Advocate Kamrunnahar called for banning the anti-liberation and religion-based communal politics and bringing an end to fundamentalism.
