A weeklong tree fair began on the premises of Shaheed Titu auditorium in Bogura town on Thursday.
The theme of this year is ‘Brikkhoprane Prokriti-Poribesh, Agami Projonmer Teksoi Bangladesh’.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Ziaul Haque inaugurated the fair as the chief guest, jointly organised by District Administration and Forest Department.
A discussion was also held on Shaheed Titu auditorium premises with Divisional Forest Officer Dr Mohammad Abdul Awal in the chair.
Superintendent of Police Sudip Kumar Chakraborty, District Awami League President Mojibur Rahman Majnu, and Bogura Sadar upazila Chairman Abu Sufian Safiq, among others, spoke on the occasion.
The speakers underscored the need for planting more trees at the homesteads and open spaces to protect the environment from its degradation and to save the country from the catastrophe of climate-change side by side with meeting the nutritional and wood demand.
A total of 30 stalls with seedlings of various species of fruit, forest and medicinal plants have been set up on the fair premises. The tree fair will continue till August 31.
