Smart cards distributed among freedom fighters

Smart cards and certificates issued by the Ministry of Liberation War were distributed among the brave freedom fighters of Baraigram Upazila of Natore district Thursday morning.

President of district Awami League and former state minister Muktijodha Professor Abdul Quddus MP was present as the chief guest in the ceremony of handing over these cards and certificates at the upazila parishad auditorium.

In the speech of the chief guest, Professor Abdul Quddus said, the freedom fighters under the leadership of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, brought freedom to this country by considering their lives trivial.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government is honouring the freedom fighters by issuing smart cards and certificates so that it will be easy for them to get civic services through this card,” he said. Baraigram Upazila Parishad Chairman Dr Siddiqur Rahman Patwari spoke as a special guest on the occasion under the chairmanship of Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mst Mariam Khatun.

The UNO said among the 190 brave freedom fighters of the upazila, the living freedom fighters are getting cards and certificates and the dead freedom fighters are getting only certificates.

“By using this card, the freedom fighters will get medical, transportation, pet quota admission and job benefits,” she said.
