BRUR student found dead

A student of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at a private hostel in the Lalbagh Khamar area of Rangpur city.

Deceased Shahnaz Akter Munni was a fourth year student of Accounting and Information System department. She hailed from Gaibandha district and used to live in Azizul Haque Female Student Residence in the area.

Classmates said Munni locked the door of her room around 3 pm on Saturday. They thought she might be sleeping. As they noticed that the door being shut for a long time, they knocked it around 9:30 pm but did not get any response from inside.

Then they looked through the window and found the body hanging from a ceiling fan.

The university proctor Golam Rabbani said he along with proctorial body visited the spot and informed police.

On information, police recovered the body, said the university police outpost in-charge Izar Ali.

He initially assumed that Munni might have committed suicide hanging herself.

Legal steps will be taken after investigation, Izar Ali added.
