Various development works are progressing fast in Rajshahi city at present aimed at making it more clean, green as well as habitable to the citizens.
In addition to the Tk 2,993-crore project titled ‘Integrated Urban Infrastructure Development in Rajshahi City’, various other infrastructural development works are being implemented.
This was revealed in a coordination meeting of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) held at its conference hall on Saturday discussing and devising ways and means how to implement the development works within the stipulated time.
City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton presided over the meeting attended by his council members and others concerned.
Mayor Liton said they have adopted three more uplift projects amounting to Tk 2,705.08 crore for infrastructural development.
The burial plaque of Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman, one of the four national leaders, will be built in the Kadirganj area in the city for facilitating the scope to know about the life, works and devotion of the national leader.
They will implement the project with an estimated cost of around Tk 30.77 crore which will help conserve the history and tradition of the region.
Liton said they have planned to conserve 22 natural water bodies under a project titled “Natural Water Bodies Conservation and Development in Rajshahi City” to retain its surface water resources for protecting the environment from further degradation.
Under the Tk 1,209.13-crore scheme, embankments of the water bodies will be concretised with retaining walls besides necessary excavation and re-excavation.
In addition to benches and walkways, concrete stairs will be constructed in all the ponds to make them attractive.
“We have also adopted a project styled “Modernisation of Rajshahi city’s Waste Management” involving around Tk 1,465.18 crore,” Liton said, adding 103 acres of land will be acquired for implementation of the project.
