Fearing deterioration of law and order due to the announcement of political programmes by the ruling Awami League and BNP at the same venue and same time, section 144 has been imposed in Sherpur upazila of Bogura district, banning meetings, rallies and public gatherings.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Moinul Islam issued this order around 10am on Saturday. The UNO issued section 144 in bus stand area (hall market) of the upazila and its adjacent areas.
By issuing this order, all kinds of public gatherings, rallies, protest marches, processions have been banned in these areas until further orders, UNO Moinul said. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sherpur police station Ataur Rahman Khandaker said, “We have talked to both the sides. Additional police have been deployed in the areas.”
