A traditional Boat race competition arranged in the Teesta River at the Teesta Railway Bridge point in Kawnia upazila of Rangpur district enthralled tens of thousands of people on Sunday afternoon.
Eight teams from different upazilas of Rangpur and adjoining districts of Lalmonirhat, Kurigram and Gaibandha participated in the competition sponsored by Kawnia upazila parishad chairman Anwarul Islam Maya.
Earlier, General Secretary of Rangpur district Awami League Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju inaugurated the boat race at a function arranged at the same venue.
Later, Commerce Minister and heroic freedom fighter Tipu Munshi MP distributed prizes among the winning teams at the concluding function as the chief guest.
Deputy Inspector general for Rangpur Range Police Mohd Abdul Alim Mahmud attended the function as a special guest. With local Balapara union Awami League General Secretary Md. Dildar Ali in the chair, Kawnia upazila parishad chairman Anwarul Islam Maya, upazila Awami League General Secretary Jomsher Ali and Shaheedbag union parishad chairman Alhaj Abdul Hannan, attended the function.
