In order to build a properly educated and knowledge-based enlightened nation, mothers should become more responsible for their children’s education and eliminate school dropouts.
Officials and public representatives expressed the view at a rally organised for mothers, guardians and students of 20 primary schools at Shiber Bazar Government Primary School ground in Haridebpur union of Rangpur Sadar upazila on Tuesday afternoon.
Deputy Commissioner Md Asib Ahsan attended the rally as the chief guest with Rangpur Sadar Upazila Chairman Nasima Zaman Boby in the chair.
District Primary Education Officer AM Shahjahan Siddique, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nur Nahar Begum, Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Kotwali Thana Mostafizar Rahman, Upazila Vice-Chairman Kajoli Begum, union parishad chairmen Amenur Rahman and Iqbal Hossain, teachers and guardians addressed the rally.
A large number of mothers in addition to guardians, members of school managing committees (SMC), students, teachers, political leaders, union parishad members, civil society members, professionals and local journalists were present.
The speakers narrated the tremendous success already achieved in the primary education sector in Rangpur Sadar upazila and various prevailing problems with suggestions for resolving those in the future.
They called upon mothers for their concerted efforts in eradicating school dropouts, ensuring 100 per cent enrollment in the primary level educational institutions to ensure quality education for every child.
The participating mothers committed to becoming more responsible, eradicating school dropouts and improving the quality of education through their sincere efforts, cooperation, regular supervision and providing suggestions.
The chief guest stressed ensuring accountability of the officials concerned, SMC members, teachers, mothers and guardians in ensuring quality education at the primary level.
“The first education in a child’s life begins with the hands of mothers. A mother plays a unique role in her child’s life. If the mother is aware, she can properly educate her child,” he said.
He urged mothers to play a crucial role in preventing school dropouts and ensuring quality education and accountability of teachers in building a properly educated and knowledge-based enlightened nation.
