Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Bengali Hindu community, will be celebrated at 468 mandaps in Thakurgaon district this year.
The five-day-long festival will begin on October 1 with due respect and religious fervour across the country and end on October 5 with the immersion of the idols of goddess Durga and other deities.
President of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad Thakurgaon District unit and Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Advocate Arunanshu Dutta Tito said 203 mandaps will be erected in Sadar upazila, 119 in Pirganj upazila, 55 in Ranisankail upazila, 66 in Baliadangi upazila and 25 in Haripur upazila of the district.
The artisans are now passing busy time, making the clay images of Goddess Durga, he said.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Mahbubur Rahman said that various preparations have already been made around the biggest religious festival of the Bangalee Hindu community and several meetings have already been held for the purpose of Durga Puja.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Jahangir Hossain said stringent security measures have been taken for the smooth holding of the puja all over the district and law enforcement agencies will be in place to ensure a smooth celebration.
All kinds of steps will be taken to celebrate the Durga Puja in a festive atmosphere, he said.
The monitoring team will work at the district and upazila level, General Secretary of Thakurgaon District Puja Udjapon Parishad Tapan Kumar Ghosh said.
Sunamganj prepares for Durga Puja
Durga Puja will be celebrated at 432 mandaps in twelve upazilas of the district this year.
President of Sunamganj District Puja Udjapon Parishad Advocate Biman Kanti Roy said 462 mandaps will be erected in different upazilas of the district including 26 mandaps in the Sunamganj municipality area.
DC Md Jahangir said all kinds of administrative steps will be taken to organize autumn Durga Puja in a festive atmosphere. The district administration and the law enforcement forces will carry out joint duties for this purpose.
SP Ehsan Shah said stringent security measures have been taken for the smooth holding of the puja all over the district and law enforcement agencies including Ansar-VDP and police members will be in place to ensure a smooth celebration.
