Preparation to celebrate Durga Puja afoot in districts

All kinds of preparation for Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Bengali Hindu community are going in full swing in Manikganj, Naogaon and Chuadanga.

The five-day-long festival will begin on October 1 with due respect and religious fervour across the country and end on October 5 with the immersion of the idols of goddess Durga and other deities.

In Manikganj, Durga Puja will be celebrated at 548 mandaps in seven upazilas of the district with great festivity this year. Anirban Paul, General Secretary of Manikganj District Puja Udjapan Committee said 87 mandaps are erecting in Sadar upazila, 33 in Manikganj Pourashava, 76 in Saturia upazila, 91 in Shibalaya upazila, 82 in Ghior upazila, 48 in Daulatpur upazila, 64 in Harirampur upazila, 57 in Singair upazila and 10 in Singair Pourashava.

A total of 274 tonnes of rice has been allocated for celebrating the Durga Puja, each mandap will get five tonnes of rice, Anirban Paul added.

In Naogaon Durga Puja will be celebrated at 816 mandaps in eleven upazilas of the district this year.

President of District Puja Udjapon Parishad Nirmal Krishna Saha said, 119 mandaps will be erected in Sadar upazila, 52 in Raninagar, 51 in Atrai upazila, 154 in Mohadevpur upazila, 106 in Badalgachi upazila, 117 in Manda upazila, 64 in Niamatpur upazila, 18 in Porsha upazila, 17 in Sapahar upazila, 86 in Patnitala upazila and 32 in Dhamoirhat upazila of the district.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Muhammad Rashidul Haque said all kinds of steps will be taken to celebrate the Durga Puja in a festive atmosphere and law enforcement forces will carry out their duties in a coordinated manner.

In Chuadanga Durga Puja will be celebrated at 123 mandaps in five upazilas of the district this year.

General secretary of the District Puja Udjapon Parishad Kingkar Kumar Dey said 23 mandaps will be erected in Sadar upazila, 42 in Alamdanga upazila, 14 in Damurhuda upazila, 18 in Darshana upazila and 26 in Jibannagar upazila of the district.

In order to ensure overall security during the upcoming Durga Puja the monitoring team will work at the district and upazila level.
