The High Court (HC) on Monday set October 2 for pronouncing its judgment on death reference and jail appeals of the two convicts sentenced to death by lower court concerned in Cumilla Zahir Miah murder case.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice KM Emrul Kayesh set the date after holding hearing on the matter.
Deputy Attorney General Sheikh Saifuzzaman Jaman took part in the hearing for the state, while Advocate Md Zahedul Alom argued for the appellants.
Restaurant staff Zahir Miah from Cumilla town’s Kaptan Bazar area was murdered at around 10.30pm on February 18, 2007. Victim’s brother later filed a murder case against Zahir’s wife Shirin Akter with Cumilla court.
Following a plea of the plaintiff, police exhumed the body of Zahir from the grave and conducted an autopsy.
Police later filed charge-sheet against Shirin and her lover Dulal Chandra Bhattacharya.
