Section 144 imposed in Pabna’s Atghoria over AL, BNP rally

Local administration has imposed section 144 at Atghoria upazila in Pabna district to avoid any untoward situation as Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and ruling Awami League (AL) called back-to-back programmes at the same venue.

The upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Masuda Akter Masu issued a notification over the matter on Monday night with effect from 6 am to 12 am on Tuesday at Naduria intersection in Majpara area.

During this period, all kinds of meetings, processions, public assembly as well as gatherings of five or more people and all the activities contrary to law and order will be prohibited, it said.

However, the restriction will not be applicable for government officials and the people engaged in emergency services, regular work and law enforcement agencies.

Earlier, the upazila unit BNP called a demonstration at Naduria intersection at 4:00 pm protesting the price hike of fuel and essential commodities while AL wants to organise a procession at the same venue at 3:00 pm to resist “anarchy of BNP-Jamaat in the name of movement”.

Due to the programmes of the two major parties in the country, there is a fear of disruption to law and order in the area.

UNO Masuda said they will take stern action if anyone tries to break the prohibition.
