National Girl Child Day celebrated across country

The National Girl Child Day-2022 was celebrated across the country on Tuesday with a view to developing girl children as worthy citizens for building a prosperous Bangladesh.

This year’s theme of the day is ‘Somoyer Ongikar: Konyashishur Odhikar’ (Rights of girl children: a timely pledge).

In Rajshahi, speakers at a discussion to mark the day in the district underlined ensuring equal rights of boys and girls equally to take the country forward.

They also put importance on the holistic approach of all governments, non-government organisations and individuals to protect children’s rights.

The children must be freed from all sorts of cruelties and inhuman behaviours, violations, repression and deprivation for building them as worthy citizens.

The meeting was jointly organised by the district administration and Shishu academy at its conference hall.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdul Jalil addressed the meeting as the chief guest, while Additional Deputy Commissioner Joya Maria Perera was in the chair.

District Children Affairs Officer Monzur Quader, Project Director of SOS Children Village Badrul Monir and Shishu Academy Trainer Monjury Nishi also spoke on the occasion.

DC Abdul Jalil said children should be taught positive social values and encouraged to learn good manners at an early age emphasizing the need for ensuring children’s safety and security and stopping child marriage for the greater national interest.

He added responsive and sensible social and political initiatives are crucial for protecting the rights of children, particularly those in the slums and underprivileged ones for transforming them into worthy citizens.

The DC said the present government under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very much positive about protecting child rights.

He urged the field-level government and non-government organisations concerned to supplement the government endeavour in this regard.

In Natore, the District administration and Department of Women Affairs jointly organised a discussion marking the day.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shamim Ahmed presided over the discussion meeting in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office this morning.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Nadem Sarwar, Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Md Abdul Wadud, Deputy Director of Family Planning Department Mahfuza Khanam, Deputy Director of Women Affairs Department Sharmin Shapla, President of
Natore Press Club Faraji Ahmad Rafiq Baban, among others, spoke on the occasion.

The speakers said that the present government has implemented various plans to provide protection to girl children. The girl children of the country have moved forward. They are now at the forefront of education and career.

In Bhola, the National Girl Child Day-2022 was celebrated with a view to building girl children as worthy citizens for building a prosperous Bangladesh.

Marking the day, the District administration and Department of Women Affairs jointly organised a discussion to devise ways and means how to ensure equal rights for the Girl child.

The discussion meeting was held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office this morning. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Taufiq-E-Lahi Chowdhury addressed the function as the chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner Tamim Al Yamin in the chair.

Deputy Director of District Women Affairs Department Md Iqbal Hossain, District Child Affairs Officer Md Akhtar Hossain, District Information Officer Md Nurul Amin, Abdur Rob School and College Principal Safia Khatun, among others, spoke on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the speakers said that half of the total population of the country is women. The present government has taken various measures to ensure women’s empowerment. Especially women are being made skilled through various training. As a result, women are becoming self-reliant.
