Student killed in clash over school managing committee formation

An eighth grader was killed and 10 more injured including police personnel in a clash between two groups over the formation of the school managing committee at Piragonj upazilla of Rangpur Monday noon.

The injured were admitted to Upazilla health complex. Police arrested four including a teacher at the school in this connection. The incident occurred in Khetaberpara Palli Mongol High School at Modonkhali union of the upazilla. A tense situation has been prevailing centring the clash and the death.

Locals and police said an altercation started between the Head Teacher, Nurnnabi Talukdar, and assistant teacher Anowarul Islam at around 12:00 in the school campus over the formation of the school managing committee that erupted in a clash later.

The two groups equipped with lethal weapons locked into the clash leading to a chase and counter-chase that killed the student and left ten injured.

The deceased, Ramjan Ali Akash, 13, was the son of Anwarul Islam of the Anontorampur village. On information, Pirgonj police reached the spot and tried to bring the situation under control. The agitated groups got violent and swapped attacks on the force leaving four policemen injured including the officer-in-charge Auwal Islam.

Later, an additional police force from Rangpur reached the spot and brought the situation under control

Superintendent of Rangpur Police, Ferdous Ali Chowdhury said, the clash erupted between two groups over the formation of the school managing committee.

Additional police were deployed in the area to avert further attempts, the SP added.
