Winter has started in Panchagarh, a border district known as the daughter of the Himalayas. On Friday morning, Tetulia recorded the lowest temperature in the country at 21.5 degrees Celsius.
While it rises to around 31 degrees Celsius during midday, the temperature dropped to 21.5 degrees Celsius again on Saturday night.
Despite the hot weather during the day, the temperature is dropping quickly in the evening. Dew drips overnight and in the morning, the dew glistening on the paddy fields, leaves and grass of the area gives the message of the arrival of winter.
In Panchagarh and surrounding areas, the intensity of winter usually increases from the beginning of November. And at the end of October, the amazement of winter begins. But this time the winter mood started in mid-October. It has been foggy here for several days.
With the cold wind of the north giving the sound of winter. Motorcyclists have started wearing warm clothes after dusk to escape the cold. The local people have started preparing for the winter with kantha-blankets and winter clothes.
According to Panchagarh’s Tetulia Meteorological Office, after continuous rain in Panchagarh for the past few days, the amount of fog has suddenly increased since Friday morning and will continue to persist in the coming days.
Meanwhile, many tourists crowding to view Kangchenjunga mountain peak were disappointed at being unable to do so due to thick fog.
Due to dense fog, various vehicles were seen plying on the roads of the upazila with their headlights on even in broad daylight.
Locals said the weather had been warm during the daytime for the past few days. But after midnight they feel mild cold as light fog covers the area.
Russel Shah, officer-in-charge of Tetulia Meteorological Observatory, said the intensity of fog is increasing day by day and the temperature is dropping further in the district as winter gradually sets in. On Friday at 9 am, Panchagarh recorded a minimum temperature of 21.5 degrees Celsius, the lowest temperature in the country this season.
