A Natore court has granted bail to a young man who was accused for the death of his wife at her Balaripara residence in Natore town.
The accused was identified as Mamum Mia, husband of deceased Khairunnahar, teacher of Khubjipur M Haque Degree College at Gurudaspur upazila in the district.
Natore Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Golzar Rahman passed the order on September 8 responding to a bail plea filed by Mamun. Later on September 23, Mamun’s bail was extended until the next hearing on October 25.
Earlier, police arrested Mamun on August 14, in a case filed by Khairun’s cousin Saber Uddin, after recovering the body of the college teacher from her house in Bolaripara area of Natore town. On the next day, Natore Judicial Magistrate Moslem Uddin sent him to jail, said Golam Sarowar, lawyer of the accused.
The body was sent to hospital for autopsy.
The college teacher married Mamun, a second year student of the college, on December 12, which went viral on the social media Facebook on July 31.
In reply to a query, Sarowar said Mamun had told him that Khairunnahar was mentally upset fearing that her colleagues, college staffs and relatives might rebuke her if they knew about her marriage with Mamun. Moreover, according to Mamun, she became anxious suspecting that the college managing body may expel her over the matter and took sleeping pills regularly.
“Besides, Khairun gave one of her friend Tk 20 lakh from the bank which was a headache for her. For these reasons, she took excessive number of sleeping pills and hanged herself to get released from all these worries,” the lawyer said quoting Mamun.
On the contrary, college’s acting principal Abu Sayed denied the allegation and said “It was her personal matter, college authorities never considered any legal action against Khairunnahar and”
Asked about the complaint, Abu Sayeed, the acting principal of Khubjipur M Haque Degree College, Khairun’s workplace, denied the allegation.
He said, “At that time the president of the college governing body was the upazila executive officer. As the matter was Khairun’s personal affair, there was never any discussion or decision to take any action against her. Moreover, no one from the college has ever mocked her for her marriage.”
Meanwhile, plaintiff of the case and Khairunnahar’s cousin Saber Uddin claimed that she never gave any money to any of her friends. Quoting Sonali Bank manager of local branch, he said, “Three months before her death Khairunnahar withdrew Tk 18 lakh from the bank while Mamun was accompanying her.”
Claiming that she also withdrew 3 lakh from Agrani Bank and another 3 lakh from NGO and gave them to Mamun, Saber claimed.
He said, “Kahirunnahar bought a Pulsar Car for Mamun at least 18 days before her death and Mamum also constructed house and bought furniture with the money. Mamun also wanted to do paddy business with the rest of the money.”
According to the case statement, Mamun took Tk 24 lakh from his deceased wife.
Saber said Khairunnahar told her son Brinto that she had taken eight sleeping pills on August 14. “After taking one sleeping pill, people fall asleep deeply. How she could hang herself after taking eight sleeping pills?” he wondered.
Accusing Mamun for the death of his cousin, he demanded justice.
Investigation Officer of the case AJ Mintu said that they are yet to get autopsy report of the dead and take legal action after getting the report.
