Aman paddy has been cultivated on 63,758 hectares of land in the Pirojpur district this season.
According to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Pirojpur district sources, aman paddy was cultivated on 61,635 hectares of land in the Kharif-2 season last year.
Last year 1.02 tonnes of aman rice was produced in the district. The target for Aman rice production this year has been set at 1.12 lakh tonnes.
DAE Pirojpur’s Deputy Director Dr Md Nazrul Islam Sikder said if the weather is favourable, it will be possible to not only achieve but also exceed the target of Aman rice production this year as well.
Deputy assistant agriculture officers are regularly monitoring the fields to advise the farmers on the maintenance of aman paddy fields including pest control.
Farmers are also keen on Aman paddy cultivation due to various forms of government support and the low prices of fertiliser. As a result, the amount of aman cultivation land is increasing every year.
Apart from this, farmers are becoming more interested in aman cultivation as the use of power tillers is becoming more popular in the district.
