6 killed in road crashes

At least six people were killed and several others were injured in different road crashes in Faridpur and Kishoreganj on Sunday.

In Faridpur , 4 people including a woman and a child, were killed and 10 others injured as bus crashed into a roadside tree in Madhabpur area of the district.

The deceased are Merian Aktar, 32, Junayed, 3, Humayun Kabir, 48, and Abdul Rauf Hawladar, 50.

Md Taimur Islam, officer-in-charge of Bhanga Highway police station, said the bus of ‘Sakura Paribahan’ hit the tree around 3 am on Dhaka-Barishal Highway in Madhabpur area, leaving two people dead on the spot and 12 others critically injured.

Two of them succumbed to their injuries at Bhanga upazila health complex, he said adding that the injured were undergoing treatment at the health complex and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College hospital.

In Kishoreganj, Two passengers of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw were killed after being hit by a speedy bus in Kuliarchar upazila of the district.

Four passengers were also injured in this accident and they were sent to Bhagalpur Zahirul Islam Medical College Hospital in Bajitpur.

The accident took place at Choysuti Eidgah ground area of Kuliarchar upazila around 8:30 am on Sunday.

However, the names of the casualties could not be known immediately.

Mohammad Golam Mostafa, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kuliarchar police station, said that a bus of Soukhin Paribahan leaving Dhaka was going to Kishoreganj. At that time, the bus hit an auto-rickshaw coming from opposite direction at Choysuti area, leaving two passengers of the auto-rickshaw dead on the spot and four others critically injured.
