RDA implements over Tk 377cr in 4 development projects

The Rajshahi Development Authority (RDA) has been implementing four development projects with an estimated cost of around Tk 377.79 crore aimed at elevating living and livelihood condition of people of the city along with its adjacent areas.

Abdullah al Tarique, Executive Engineer of RDA, said they are constructing a north-south connecting road starting from adjacent to the campus of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) to bypass the road at a cost of around Tk 206.64 crore.

The 5 km four-lane road will have 9,000-metre RCC drain and eight culverts, a four-lane overpass along with installations of 5,000-metre water, power, gas and telephone lines each.

It has also implemented another project to make Rajshahi Metropolitan Development Plan sensible to disaster risks through updating the Effective Mega and Detailed Area Plans at a cost of around Tk 18.36 crore.

Necessary development works of Barnoy Residential Area Development project were completed.

Development of 227 residential plots, construction of 1.86 km single-lane road with bituminous carpeting, 4086-metre RCC drain and 18 culverts and water and power supply to the entire area were the major works of the Tk 73.11-crore project.

“We also have one more residential area development project with involvement of around Tk 93.51 crore,” Engineer Tarique said, adding that 18.11 acres of land were acquired for the project.

RDA has been constructing Bangabandhu Square in the city aimed at upholding the spirit of Bangabandhu and adding beauty to the city.

“We are implementing the project titled ‘Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Square’ at Talaimari crossing with an estimated cost of around Tk 197.52 crore”, said Sheikh Quamruzzaman, Assistant Engineer of RDA, while talking to BSS here Sunday.

He said the square is being constructed in an area of 12,518.08 square metre of land.

The basement will have car parking, amphitheatre, art gallery and Bangabandhu sculpture surrounded by waterfall.

“There will be a modern sound system, lighting, permanent art gallery with digital screen and museum on the ground floor,” said Quamruzzaman, adding the first floor will have a sophisticated restaurant, luxurious landscape, immersive display and open sitting and amusement arrangement.

Apart from this, the square will have five passenger lifts, generators, solar panels and a substation for power supply.

In addition, there will be interior decoration and landscaping works in the square. A mural will be installed in an area of 529.74 square metres side by side with three sculptures.

At present, there are five other projects in the pipeline involving Tk 694.97 crore. Three new connecting roads, one from Shalbagan to Sucharan crossing via Kapasia, another from Binodpur to Halidagachhi and the rest from Chhotobangram to Meherchandi will be constructed.

Captain Monsur Ali Park will be beautified and modernized and the Parijat Lake will be developed to attract more visitors there.

Engineer Tarique expects, on successful implementation of the uplift project, the scenario of the city and the living condition and livelihood of the city dwellers will be changed.
